Henry Shiplee
Performance Pathway Scientist, UK Sport

Henry has worked for the English Institute of Sport’s Performance Pathway Team since 2014 and currently holds the role of Performance Pathway Scientist. His work has primarily focused on the delivery of national athlete recruitment campaigns that assist Great Britain’s World Class Programmes in finding new athletes with the potential to medal at future Olympic and Paralympic Games. Within these campaign Henry has led on the utilisation of Smartabase to enhance data collection, management and reporting processes.

Mo Bobat
Player Identification Lead, England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) 

Mo is driven by a lifelong fascination with helping teams and individuals to realise their potential, accentuated by his formative experiences as a teacher and cricket coach.

Mo’s role as the ECB’s Player Identification Lead has seen him assume responsibility for ensuring that the right quantity and quality of players are selected onto the men’s International Pathway and into the England teams.

In his previous role as Operations Manager for the ECB’s Young Lions development programme, Mo demonstrated strategic acumen in areas such as talent development and performance planning, whilst also managing the programme’s multidisciplinary curriculum.

Mo has a BSc Honours in Sports Science & Management as well as a Post Graduate Certificate in Education.  An experienced coach and facilitator, Mo has also achieved ECB Level 4 Master Coach and ECB Coach Educator qualifications.

Mo was part of UK Sport’s inaugural Future Performance Leaders Programme, specifically designed to develop the next generation of world leading Performance Directors and is currently in his final year of study on the pioneering Master of Sporting Directorship programme at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Helen Bayne
Senior Postdoctoral Fellow, University of Pretoria

As a sport scientist specializing in biomechanics, Helen has worked in numerous elite sport programmes, with a current focus in cricket and sprinting. She is a lecturer and coordinator of the athlete management system at the University of Pretoria and is therefore involved in a combination of research, teaching and sport science practice.

Kimberley Popp
Head of Sports Analytics, Aspire Academy 

Kimberly Popp is a sports scientist focused on integrating technology within high performance teams. She is passionate about helping athletes maximize their performance during training and on the playing field. Kimberly is currently the Head of Sports Analytics at Aspire Academy where she is responsible for all things data and managing the sports analytics team. She works closely with coaches, sports scientists and administrators to develop and deploy data intake, management, and reporting systems across Aspire’s operations.

Melvin Kantebeen
Owner, Sportadviesbureau ConTest

Melvin Kantebeen is a graduate in Human Movement Sciences (VU, Amsterdam), member of the Sport Interests group of the Netherlands Association for Human Movement Sciences (VvBN) and a member of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). As an exercise physiologist, he has a great deal of experience in conducting exercise tests in various endurance and sports games (including skating, cycling, running, football, hockey, squash) and advising athletes and trainers. 

Dr. Markus Deutsch
CEO and Co-Founder, Fusion Sport 

Markus completed his PhD in Exercise Physiology during which time he was also a consultant to the New Zealand All Blacks and other elite teams in various sports. His passion for using technology to monitor athletes and improve performance led Markus to return to Australia and start-up Fusion Sport in January 2003. In his role as CEO Markus maintains an active role working with a range of clients and technology partners.

Alan Carlsson
High Performance Team, Triathlon Canada

Alan Carlsson has provided technical leadership within Canada’s high-performance sport system for 25 years and has been working with Triathlon Canada since 2010. As a core member of the high-performance program, Alan works closely with the high-performance director and influences all facets of the high-performance program; from managing ITU elite athlete entries, data collection, performance analysis and system alignment. Over the years, Alan has served in a number of roles within the organization. He was instrumental in launching Canada’s paratriathlon program as the original head coach; designing and leading Triathlon Canada’s Gold Medal Profile and associated talent development strategy; and, as coach with World Triathlon, World Championships and World Cup athletes.

Alan has post-graduate academic training in exercise physiology, biomechanics and biostatistics, and is an NCCP chartered professional coach and coach developer in triathlon and canoe-kayak. Prior to joining Triathlon Canada, he worked with athletes and coaches representing Canoe-Kayak Canada, Cycling Canada, Cross Country Canada and the Canadian Blind Sports Association.

Matthew Tuttle
Sports Performance Physical Therapist, Denver Nuggets

Dr. Matt Tuttle currently works as the physical therapist for the Denver Nuggets. He graduated with an undergraduate degree in biology from Le Moyne College and  continued on to receive his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Upstate Medical University. Following the completion of his graduate work, Matt achieved board certification in both orthopedics and sports physical therapy. 

Prior to beginning work in the NBA, Dr. Tuttle worked as the physical therapist with North Carolina Football Club and the North Carolina Courage. He has experience treating athletes from the NFL, MLB, NHL and multiple division 1 universities. Dr. Tuttle’s teaching experience includes adjunct professor positions with South College and Baylor University as well as teaching in continuing education, residency, fellowship level courses.

Pierre McCourt, Director Performance Services, Canadian Sports Institute Ontario

With over 20 years of professional experience, Pierre’s career has evolved from a technical role in sport physiotherapy, to becoming an expert in his field, and subsequently moving into management and senior leadership positions. Pierre has held many roles in high performance sport including Sports Physiotherapist at multiple Olympic Games, the management of sport medicine and sport science units, and senior organizational roles in four Countries (Australia, UK, Qatar and now Canada). Previous organizations that Pierre has worked with include – Richmond Football Club in the Australian Football League, Athletics Australia, the English Institute of Sport, British Athletics and prior to joining, Pierre’s most recent position was as the Director of the National Sports Medicine Program of Qatar. From an academic perspective Pierre has completed a Masters in Sports Physiotherapy from La Trobe University Melbourne (2000) and an Executive from Paris (2016). Throughout his career Pierre has also presented original material at clinical and coaching conferences plus co-authored peer reviewed publications.

Ed McNeely, Lead Strength & Conditioning, Canadian Sports Institute Ontario

Ed McNeely received his Masters Degree in Exercise Physiology from the University of Ottawa in 1994 and has been involved in the strength and conditioning industry for 25 years. He has been a consultant to seventeen Canadian national and professional sports teams and is currently Rowing Canada’s strength and conditioning coach at their London Training Centre. Ed is the author of five books: Power Plyometrics, The Resistance Band Workout Book, One Hundred Strength Exercises, Training for Rowing, and Skillful Rowing. He has published over 100 articles on training and athlete conditioning covering topics such as strength training, plyometrics, making weight, assessing fitness, speed and power development, planning and periodization, and aerobic fitness. He is a frequent resource for other writers, acting as an expert for articles in Muscle & Fitness, Outside Magazine, the Georgia Tech Sports Medicine Newsletter, the Rowing News, the Globe and Mail, Ottawa Citizen and the Discovery Channel.

Ed is a frequent speaker at both national and international sport and fitness conferences, having done over 75 presentations in the past 10 years at conferences- such as the NSCA National Convention, the AAHPERD National Convention, the Society of Weight Training Injury Specialists Conference, ECA Sport and Fitness Conference, Coaching Association of Canada Conferences, Rowing Canada Conferences, Ontario Minor Hockey Association Clinics, Joy of Sculling Conferences, and Olympic Solidarity Conferences

Mark Barker, Manage Information Technology, Canadian Sports Institute Ontario

Mark has worked in the IT industry for various companies in the private sector, prior to joining CSIO. Most recently he worked within the Mining sector as an IT team lead and senior onsite support technician. Along with his ITIL and A+ designations, Mark also has an education in Computer Programming and Audio Engineering. He is a graduate of both Humber College, and The Trebas Institute in Toronto.

Scott Hobbs

Associate Strength and Conditioning Coach – United States Military Academy at West Point

A highly motivated and detail-oriented strength and conditioning coach (CSCS) with a proactive attitude. Eight years’ experience in the design, implementation, and administration of strength and conditioning programs in the professional, collegiate, and private sectors in both the USA and the UK – including three years at the NCAA D1 level. Excellent skills in program design/periodization, athlete management, injury prevention and rehabilitation, coaching, and performance testing. National champion powerlifter (UK) and former state record holder (USA), former competitive amateur boxer (UK).

Drew Hammond MS, CSCS

Head of Strength and Conditioning – 48th Rescue Squadron – United States Air Force

Drew is currently embedded with US Air Force Special Operations as a strength and conditioning specialist, a role he has filled for several years. Prior to his work within the tactical environment, he worked both stateside and overseas with a variety of international, Olympic, professional, university, and domestic programs.

Derek Wester

Derek is the Director of Business Development for Fusion Sport Inc., overseeing all new events, sales, and marketing efforts in the North American and Canadian markets. He has a Bachelor of Science in Health and Human Performance with an emphasis of Sport Management. His background includes Sport Performance, Corporate Wellness, and Consulting in Exercise / Nutrition for Medical practices. Since joining Fusion Sport, he has helped increase brand exposure, grow existing relationships, & create new partnerships in professional sports, military, and the private sector.

Tom Crameri

Tom completed his Bachelor of Exercise and Sport’s Science during which he focused on Strength and Conditioning and Coaching Science. After University, he began work as a Strength and Conditioning coach working with a number of elite athletes and teams in different sports. Tom joined the Fusion Sport team in January 2014 and is directly responsible for 25+ clients worldwide.

Dr. Marcus Colby

As well as being a Sport Scientist at Fusion Sport Marcus is also a recent PhD graduate from the University of Western Australia and has a passion for injury prevention and ‘prediction’ in elite sport. At Fusion Sport Marcus is responsible for configuring SMARTABASE for in-depth analytics across organisational data including Medical, GPS, Strength and Conditioning, Performance data and much more.

Lisa Alexander 
Australian Diamonds Head Coach at Netball Australia

Lisa Alexander is the coach of Australia’s Diamonds Netball team who has successfully taken the country to the Commonwealth Games and World Championships. Awarded Australian Coach of the Year in 2015, Lisa Alexander has a reputation for her professionalism, drive, and innovative approach to coaching.

Lisa is a former Victorian state representative player and a member of the Australian senior wider squad. She was head coach of the Melbourne Phoenix in the Commonwealth Bank Trophy, taking the team to two title wins in 2002 and 2003.

Phil Coles 
Head of Athletic Performance, San Antonio Spurs (NBA)  

Phil is a Head of Athletic Performance currently leading the Medical and Performance staff of the San Antonio Spurs. Phil’s career has spread across multiple elite level sports in multiple countries that has been dedicated to elite sports performance and athlete well being.Phil is a Head of Athletic Performance, currently leading the medical and performance staff of the San Antonio Spurs. Phil’s career has included work as head of physiotherapy with the Socceroos and Liverpool FC.

Associate Professor Sam Robertson
Head of Research & Innovation, Victoria University & Western Bulldogs

Sam currently holds a joint appointment as the Victoria University-Western Bulldogs Head of Research & Innovation.

He oversees the sports science partnership between the University and Western Bulldogs. Sam also supervises co-appointed staff, PhD and Honours students, as well as implementing innovative performance strategies at the club.

Prior to arriving at the university, Sam worked as a sport scientist in various institute roles in both Australia and the United Kingdom. He returned to Australia to undertake multiple applied roles in Australian football and golf.

He completed his PhD at Edith Cowan University in skill acquisition & talent identification as part of his role in Research and Innovation with the Golf Australia High Performance program. Prior to commencing at VU, Sam also held an ongoing position as the Lecturer in Biomechanics at Deakin University.

Due to his multidisciplinary applied background, Sam maintains a variety of research interests related to improving sporting performance. These interests predominantly cover Performance Analytics & Technology / Talent Selection, Development & Coaching Practice themes in Australian football and golf.

Luke Power
AFL Academy Manager 

Luke Power is the Head Coach and Manager of the AFL Academy where his responsibility is to manage and develop talented young footballers from all over Australia.  Luke was born and bred in Melbourne but his career in the AFL industry started when he was drafted to the Brisbane Lions in 1997. He then spent the next 14 years at the club which included premiership success in 2001, 2002 and 2003.  At the end of 2011 Luke left Brisbane and started at the expansion club, the Greater Western Sydney GIANTS where he played for one year and coached for five.  Due to the demographic of the GIANTS young list at the time it was here that his passion for mentoring and developing young players to reach their maximum potential, on and off the field, was reinforced.  Luke has been in his role with the AFL Academy for two years and in this time has been creating online templates with Fusion Sport, through the athlete management system SMARTABASE, to aid the development of young athletes under his guidance.

Todd Ryall
Manager, Innovation, Research, and Development

Todd oversees the Athlete Management System (AMS) and project management services for the broader sports network for the Australian Institute of Sport. His role is centered around aligning athlete data systems into the one national platform. With the AMS expanding across all State Institute and Academy’s of Sport and National Sporting Organizations in Australia, Todd has overseen the overall strategic direction to establish the multi-platform system for a 15,000+ user base. The AMS has highlighted the importance of bringing data management into a unified system, with the combined national goal of improving athlete performance. Todd has extensive experience in the software industry, with over 20 years consulting on projects in the Private and Government sector across 300+ organizations. Todd has implemented sport, financial, manufacturing, medical and corporate property systems across the Asia Pacific, Europe and the United States.

Ian Morrow
Systems Architect, Innovation, Research, and Development, Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) 

Ian Morrow is Systems Architect, Innovation Research and Development at the Australian Institute of Sport. Since 2013, Ian has worked to introduce a centralized athlete platform to the Australian sport network, aligning technical strategies to facilitate data management and analytics with all national sporting organizations. Ian’s background includes technical research support in Physiology at the Australian Institute of Sport and the Faculty of Health at University of Canberra. Ian holds a Bachelor in Sport Coaching and Exercise Science and a Bachelor of Sports Management from the University of Canberra.

Simon Harries
Head of Performance Science and Rehabilitation with the Australian Men’s Rugby Sevens program. Rugby Australia 

Simon is currently Head of Performance Science and Rehabilitation with the Australian Men’s Rugby Sevens program. A performance coach and sports scientist with experience across both elite and developmental Rugby Union and Rugby League athletes. He holds a PhD from The University of Newcastle where he investigated the effects of resistance training in adolescent rugby union players. He also has extensive experience in the implementation and use of athlete management systems in team sports to enhance the monitoring and analysis of athlete performance.

Troy Ayres
High Performance Director, Queensland Academy of Sport

Troy Ayres is a High Performance Director at the Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS).  Commencing in 2013, Troy has worked across 12 Olympic, Commonwealth Games and iconic sports in Australia.  Troy works very closely with each program’s performance teams as well as interacting closely with the respective National and State Sporting Organisations.  Prior to working at the QAS, Troy worked for Tennis Australia for 12 years in numerous capacities including as a National Development Coach, National Selector and Athlete Development Manager.

Matt Jeffriess
Performance Coordinator for the NRL Referees

Matt Jeffriess is the Performance Coordinator for the NRL Referees. In his role Matt manages the processes around the physical and mental preparation for all officials appointed to NRL matches, State of Origin and International Test matches.

Matt is finalising his PhD thesis (University of Technology Sydney) investigating ‘Performance Factors for Elite Rugby League Officials’, in which he and his research collaborators have utilised first person video captured live in NRL competition and gaze mapping technology.

Brad Pryjmachuk
Performance Solutions Manager, NSW Rugby League

Brad Pryjmachuk has been the Performance Solutions Manager with NSWRL since 2015. The main roles encompassed in his position include the performance services across the State of Origin Pathways Programs and Senior State of Origin Program. One of the initiatives set out within NSWRL has been to collate information to understand the development pathway of elite junior rugby league players through to Senior State of Origin. Brad is a strong believer in an aligned approach to performance development with the end goal at the forefront of all initiatives. Brad has previously worked at The RFL as the England Human Performance and Analytics Manager servicing the England national elite programs.

Dr. Sue Robson
SMARTABASE Product Manager, Fusion Sport 

Sue joined Fusion in 2014 after 4 years as head of Physiology at the Scottish Institute of Sport, where she was the primary driver and architect of The Institute’s National Data Management System (built using SMARTABASE). Prior to the SIS Sue was the Director of Sport Science for the US Ski Team, where she had also designed and implemented a number of systems for athlete data management. Sue’s particular interests are Neurophysiology and Female Athlete Physiology but brings with her a tremendous amount of experience in all areas of Sport Science.
